About Me

I grew up in Iowa, developing a midwestern work ethic and values. In high school I realized
I wanted to move information from those that have it to those that need it, and I've been doing
it ever since.

I graduated from the University of Iowa and went to work cleaning Ugly Duckling rental cars
until I got a real job, with the editorial office of the journal "Endocrinology".  Three years later
I moved to Los Angeles and landed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, working on books,
manuscripts and slide presentations.  After that I was Managing Editor of the journal "Neurosurgery" for
8 years, then spent a year as Managing Editor of an electronic journal called "JRAD". I've also served in
editorial, developmental and management roles for 4 medical content websites and companies. Those companies
fell prey to the dotcom burst, and the financial difficulties of putting medical content online, which opened the
way for me to move into a freelance career, and my current position as Managing Editor for the Retina Times.

Focusing my career on the Internet has made life very interesting since I jumped online at the beginning of 2000,
and the resulting experiences have been amazing. I've managed activities and planned strategies for new and
developing web portals, including arranging and conducting live chats, developing online member
communities, planning and implementing marketing campaigns and strategizing company growth and
direction, as well as filled hundreds of pages with content.

I've done a world of editing, organizing, planning, and following through. I've worked with doctors, educators,
businesspeople, salespeople, marketing people, lots of people. I love my job, and you'll love my work.
